Pigment Dispersion Techniques

Concrete is composed of two main ingredients, cement paste and sand/aggregate (S/A). The properties of the cement paste are affected by the presence of the S/A, specifically during the short period of time when blending in the mixer.

Pigment Loadings

Cement is a binder that must be covered with pigment particles to shift the cement color in various directions. The key parameter is the desired final color - this determines which combination of pigments are required.

Specialty Concrete Admixtures

An admixture designed for colored concrete should accomplish two goals. The first is to reduce the excess water required for flow and to fill molds. The second is to KEEP the water that has been added inside the body of the concrete to allow it to completely react and convert to the multi silicate structures.
